Snowpack Chronicles: 1
A brief introduction into who I am and why I made Snowpack
Hello world,
My name is Patrick, welcome to Snowpack Chronicles. Before I begin, Id like to say thank you, I sincerely appreciate any amount of time you spend with me and the app’s community. I’ve been an avid skier since my childhood and grew up on the sometimes sketchy Big Bear Mountain, I was the kid bombing every run in sight. Enough of me, lets get into it.
I mulled over the idea of creating this app over the last couple of years for myself and a group of friends. I’ve tried a plethora of apps like On the Snow for resort weather reports or Slopes for tracking my sessions. They got the job done, but wheres the fun in that. Besides I told myself it’d be cool to create something I use thats free for life! (Spoiler alert: It won’t be)
The journey began right after the semi disappointing 25-26 ski season. I wanted to build a platform to make the most out of every ski trip I plan. I knew I wanted 3 core pillars to the application; weather, ski tracking, and community. Weather is obvious, no snow = no ski. Ski Tracking, that one is just cool so I figured it out, and will massively enhance this in future releases! Finally theres Community, this one caused tons of headaches meeting the App store’s requirements but I think it has the greatest potential.
Skiing can be isolating, friends get busy leaving you no option but to run a solo mission. Thats why community is so important to me, I’ve skied on my own more times than I can count. The community features, like resort feeds, are meant to bring smaller communities together to share mountain tips, snow conditions, find ski buddies, or talk smack about the resort overlords. The vision is a vibrant micro resort communities driving real life connections leading to long lasting ski buddies.
Snowpack is still early and theres plenty I want to build and improve on. But the goal is simple, help us find the best snow, track our days, and meet a few people we’d be stoked to ski with again and again.
Ill be using Snowpack Chronicles as a way to share what i’m working on, learning, and any noteworthy adventures I get into. If you give the app a try, let me know whats great, what sucks, and what you wish it could do. This genie is looking to grant some wishes!
Thank you again for being here in the beginning. Hopefully ill see a few of you on the mountain.
Thank you,
Patrick
